Tonight, please complete chapter 9 and on a sheet of paper, provide two different examples (with quotes) of irony in this chapter.

- Please remember the examples you provide should demonstrate ways in which the slave holders mis-used religion.

* I will be collecting this in class tomorrow

Moving Forward, you should plan to be finished with chapter 10 by Wednesday. My suggestion would be to

Read pages 75-94 tonight
Read pages 95-125 tomorrow

On the blog you will see an assignment that should be turnin on turnitin.com by Wednesday.  It is as follows,

Douglass prefaces his physical combat with Mr. Covey with the declaration: "You have seen how a man was made a slave; you shall see how a slave was made a man."

Many would argue that the climax of this narrative is when Douglass learns to read.  While others would argue that the climax is when he fights Mr. Covey in chapter 10.

First, explain why BOTH of these events are important. Then evaluate which event you think is actually  the climax and why.  In your response make sure that you include a rebuttal (many would argue that _________ is the climax.  However, _________ is a more suitable because....).

You response should...

1. Be double spaced
2. Have a heading
3. Be no shorter than a page, but no longer than two
4. Use at least two quotes with proper citations (Douglass page )

* This will count as a quiz grade.
