Over the break, remember that you should be working on your Of Mice and Men essay.

The question:

What is the relationship between loneliness, friendship, and the American Dream as evidenced by Of Mice and Men?

* Remember that you only need to focus on two of the three terms

You may find the following graphic organizer useful.  I encourage you to print it out and use it.  Although they don't mention the term "MEAL" you will notice that it is exactly that.

Step 1

Create a folder on Google Drive and name it "Your Last Name 9" (ex. Smith9, Williams9, etc)

Step 2

Type up the essay that I returned to you today in class, word for word, without edits and put in a Google Doc
Name this "Formative 1"
Place this inside the folder

Step 3

Create a new Google Doc, call it "Formative 1 Reflection" and answer the following questions:

1. Generally speaking, what strengths did you notice in your own writing

2. Generally speaking, what was one thing you need to work on in the next formative?

3. In terms of organization, were you able to complete 5 paragraphs?

4. Did you include MEAL paragraphs? If not, what did your parents lack?

Monday, December 18, 2017

Create a thesis statement that describes the relationship between loneliness, friendship, and the American Dream.

- You can use 2 out of the 3 terms

* This thesis statement will be the focus of your future essay - what you are trying to prove.

* Remember that your job is to ask yourself what John Steinbeck is saying about ______ + _______, and how does he achieve it

* Your thesis should not be longer than 1 sentence
