- Complete the Socratic Seminar Prep Sheet

- Write a one page satirical article - this should be turned in to me tomorrow in class
        - Written in the style of a real newspaper article
        - The article should be relevant today though it doesn't have to be based on a "heavy" topic
        - Bring up the issue, but only to mock and criticize how it is treated and dealt with in society
        - You may use fake names, dates, and fake quotes
       -  Consider using www.theonion.com to help you

On a separate sheet of paper, please complete a SOAPStone graphic organizer (Subject, Occasion, Audience, Purpose) and make sure that you think about the satirical techniques that we discussed in class today

If you haven't done so already, please make sure that you also read book 22

Monday, April 2, 2018

#1 Read the poem "Penelope to Ulysses" on Google Classroom and answer the questions. This should be completed by tonight at 11:59 pm

# 2 Write an original poem using the criteria that follows. A hard copy should be printed and brought in on Wednesday

The poem that you read (Penelope to Ulysses) imagines what Penelope would say to Odysseus if she had the chance.

Remember that many good poems use figurative language like metaphors, similes, and personification.

Write a poem no fewer than 25 lines

The poem must imagine what one character in the Odyssey would say to another

-You must use at least one epic simile. Write that in Italics (it should be no less than 2 lines, no longer than 3)

-You must use at least one metaphor Print that in bold

- You must use at least one allusion

Suggestions:

Calypso to Odysseus (Last name A-D)
Odysseus to His Lost Crew (Last names E-H)
Athena to Odysseus (Last names I -K)
Penelope to a Suitor (L-N)
Odysseus to Telemachus (P-S)
Odysseus to Antionous (T-W)

Antinous to Odysseus (W-Z)

Reflection # 2

1. Generally speaking, what strengths did you notice in your own writing?

2. Generally speaking, what was one thing you need to work on in the next formative?

3. In terms of organization, were you able to complete a thesis that answers the question?

4. Do you 5 paragraphs?
4. Did you include MEAL paragraphs? If not, what did you include?  What did you not?

5. Look at your citations.
  1. Did you use MLA Format? (Mathis 2)
  2. Did you use TIE (tag, introduce, embed)?  Did you use more of one than the others?

6. Look back at your first formative, what major improvements (if any) did you make?

7. What seems to be a common weakness in your writing?
